Richmond Palace, Greater London, England

A view of Richmond Palace Gatehouse

Richmond Palace

Richmond Palace was a royal residence on the south bank of the River Thames, upstream of the Palace of Westminster. It was built around 1501 and was occupied by royalty until 1649. Little now remains of the actual Palace, other than vestigial traces and most notably the gatehouse.

It was said that as Queen Elizabeth I lay dying her ghost was seen wandering the corridors. Her apparition was alleged to haunt the gatehouse after her death.
